Agave Love Asia Tour

September 3, 2016 - September 5, 2016

$62.50

Professional agave enthusiast Phil Bayley (of Sydney’s now-defunct Café Pacifico fame) is organising Singapore’s first-ever festival dedicated to the agave plant – from which mezcal and tequila are made from – and Agave Love will take place from Saturday 3 September 2016 to Monday 5 September 2016 featuring an entire lineup of events for drinkers and industry folks alike.

Agave Love first started in Sydney in March 2015, and this year event organiser will partner Proof & Co affiliate EC Proof Pte Ltd for the Singapore edition. The idea for Agave Love is to educate and help recognise the rich cultural history behind Mexico’s agave spirits.

The festival will open on Saturday officially, and then will see the likes of international speakers such as US-based tequila ambassador Jiulio Bermejo and creator of the world-famou’s Tommy’s Margarita; Tomas Estes of Tequila Ocho, Juan Jesus Lozoya from Mexico’s Regulatory Board of Mezcal, and Jacob Lustig of Don Amado Mezcal and Arte NOM Tequila, and more, present their professional expertise in the agave spirits industry in four different parallel tracks over two days on Sunday and Monday.

Other speakers include Esteban Morales, Secretary for the Promodor de la Raicilla who will be taking attendees on a journey through the agave landscape and identifying some of the issues affecting them due to the recent demand and popularity of these these spirits and the work being done for the preservation and sustainability of the agave. Juan Lozoya and Jaime Munoz both from the Mezcal Regulatory council will be talking about Pre-Hispanic Distillation as well as helping people navigate the amazing world of Mezcal, its history and the people and both religious and indigenous cultures behind this amazing spirit. Lastly, Cecilia Rios Murrieta, owner of La Niña de Mezcal will be talking about the important role women play in the Mezcal industry.

Venues where these tracks are held include 28 Hong Kong Street, Proof Flat, Vasco, and PYXIEMOSS.
