Sake Appreciation Singapore 2016

Sake drinking may be on a downward trend in Japan, but outside of its home country the appreciation for sake has never been stronger. To tap into the ever-growing interest in sake here in Singapore, this year the Japan Prestige Sakè Association and Tanesei Trading will be hosting Sake Appreciation Singapore 2016 on Friday October 2016 from 6pm to 9pm at the Stamford Ballroom in Fairmont Singapore.
The second time it’s ever held in Singapore, the one-night only event will see more than 20 Japanese traditional breweries present, offering over 100 different types of sake available for both sale and sampling. Master brewers and sake sommeliers will also be present to share their knowledge. Sake breweries represented at the event include:
- Urakasumi (Miyagi)
- Ohyama (Yamagata)
- Yonetsuru (Yamagata)
- Daishichi (Fukushima)
- Kaika (Tochigi)
- Jozen Mizunogotoshi (Niigata)
- Wakatake (Shizuoka)
- Nagaragawa (Gifu)
- Zuisen (Okinawa)
- Sougen (Ishikawa)
- Kamikokoro (Okayama)
- Gokyo (Yamaguchi)
- Umenishiki
The highlight of the night will be the selection of seasonal autumn sake, known as hiyaoroshi (冷やおろし). Hiyaoroshi is brewed with new rice harvested the previous autumn and, after pasteurization is stored and matured throughout the following spring and summer, which allows the sake to develop its rich flavour and mellow aroma before it is sold the following autumn.
